Northstar Academy kicks off First Annual Special Needs Forum-January 29-30, 2010

Northstar Academy is a non-profit school dedicated to providing special needs students with an academic and social education along with the skills necessary to help the students transition to life after high school. Mr. Phelan is proud to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Northstar. On January 29-30, 2010, Northstar hosted “Navigating a Special Needs Life,” a forum devoted to special needs educational and employment opportunities. The event was designed for parents, students, educators, and medical professionals in the special needs community.

Keynote Speaker, Fred R. Volkmar, Ph.D., Autism and Asberger’s expert and Director of the Child Study Center at Yale University, spoke about “The Changing Face of Autism.” Dr. Volkmar was honored at the Forum’s Compass Awards Dinner, where he was introduced by Mr. Phelan.
