Cell phones are the cause of the distraction in 18% of fatal car crashes related to distracted driving.  A contributing cause of 80% of all motor vehicle crashes is driver inattention.  As cell phone and car manufacturers work to make it easier to text, email, and facebook while driving, the problem is only going to get worse unless we educate young drivers now.

Located in Richmond, Virginia, Northstar Academy is a private, non-profit school serving children who have a wide range of learning differences.  Great Aspirations Scholarship Program, Inc. (GRASP) is a non-profit that helps students and their families access various education programs, including the unique program at Northstar.  GRASP's Northstar Fund provides scholarships to children who need but cannot afford Northstar's specialized education programs. Donors to the Northstar Fund are eligible not only for the standard tax deduction, but also for a Virginia State Tax Credit.

Mr. Phelan is proud to once again work with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to sponsor and organize a 5K walk-a-thon on May 22, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. at Dorey Park near the airport.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 17,602 people were killed by drunk drivers in 2006.  Mr. Phelan volunteers with MADDVA to help in its efforts to eliminate drunk driving.  Please consider sponsoring a team for the walk-a-thon or sending a donation for this important cause. Commonwealth Community Trust and other non-profit organizations like it in other states administer pooled special needs trusts run by trained social workers who empathize and work with families.  The money in the trust is managed by a financial institution, but the family liaison is a social worker rather than a banker or broker who could care less about the special needs client.

Our client suffered a mild traumatic brain injury and neck and back pain as a result of a motor vehicle crash.  The resulting loss of employment and symptoms from his brain and spine injuries aggravated pre-existing depression to the point where our client suffered debilitating depression.
